James was my Great Great Grandfather.
He was my Grandpa Mortensen's Birth Mothers Father.

Born Simeon James Thurber

James joined the Union Army at the age of 17.

The 41st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Company G. The Company consisted of men mainly from the Green Bay area.

Organized at Milwaukee, Wis., and mustered in June 8, 1864. Moved to Memphis, Tenn., June 15-19. Attached to 2nd Brigade, Post of Memphis, Tenn., District of West Tennessee, to September.

Garrison, railroad guard and picket duty at Memphis and in that vicinity until September.

Repulse the attack of Confederate Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest's Second Battle of Memphis August 21, 1864.

Mustered out September 24, 1864. 100 Days of Service.


James was married twice.

Alzina High Miller or Alzina Leigh (no children) in Jan 25 1872

and

Victoria J. LaBelle in Jan 16. 1884
